Narrow canvas assist

Use AI for rename, rewrite, and find-similar — not for inventing the whole screen.

Purpose

NN/g’s 2025 tool update found narrow-scope features (Figma rename layers, rewrite copy, find-similar) are what designers actually adopt. Broad “generate the UI” tools still need heavy human steering. This workflow locks beginner practice to those narrow assists so we build literacy without pretending the canvas AI is a senior designer.

Steps

1. **Select a scoped object** — a layer group, a text string, or an asset search seed. Refuse whole-page select. 2. **Run one assist** — rename, rewrite/shorten/translate, or find-more-like. One assist per pass. 3. **Diff by eye** — accept only if names/copy/assets match the job and the DS voice. 4. **Log the save** — note minutes saved; if zero, mark the feature as skip for this file type. 5. **Escalate only after a decide** — full-frame generation belongs in `prompt-to-wire-mock` or medium/profi tracks, not here.

When to use / Skip

Use on production Figma files for housekeeping and copy assist. Skip when you need a new IA, a prototype flow, or a research synthesis — those are other slots. Falsifier: if the assist rewrites layout or invents components, undo and leave this workflow.
