CrewAI organizes agents into “crews” with roles, goals, and sequential or hierarchical processes — a popular open-core way to express multi-agent job structures without a full graph DSL. Agents get tools and share context as the crew runs tasks. It maps cleanly to “digital workforce” metaphors (estimating crew, finance intake crew). For real side effects you still need an external ledger, authority policy, and durable execution underneath; the crew graph should not be the system of record.
In this catalog it is the Frameworks option when you need to compose multi-step agent loops and tool handoffs. Keep Crew AI on the observe/propose side of the loop: useful signals and drafts, with human or policy authority still required before anything irreversible runs.
Developers define agents, tools, and graphs/crews; the framework runs the loop (plan→act→observe), managing memory and handoffs.
